EXPLORATIONS_ DIGITAL THEATER FESTIVAL-2

Strange Sun Theater was founded 6 years ago as a space to explore the magic of live performance.  In these unprecedented times it is important that our explorations as theater artists continue.  The work we do is inherently magical as it asks us to join together in space and time to explore a moment that will only happen once.

Join us in watching these 3 lives events, as they explore live performance in a digital realm- with both old and new work.

ALL PERFORMANCES ARE FREE AND WILL HAPPEN ONLY ONCE

A techno-thriller that begins when a young woman is raped at a fraternity and ends in a future where corporations promise a new body with the swipe of a screen, Click follows a hacktivist named Fresh who turns industrial espionage into high art. As this virtual Banksy takes over the global imagination, the man who stole her life develops a technology that sends the two of them on a collision course at the heart of the corporate empire, where innovation comes at any cost. A cyberpunk drama for the #MeToo era, this is a powerful and moving work about reclaiming your power, your life and your identity.

FEFU AND HER FRIENDS

By: Maria Irene Fornes

Director: Nancy Rodriguez

In a world that refuses to treat women as equals, and a time that amplifies our yearning for connection, we cross the void and connect to each other’s humanity through Maria Irene Fornes’ brilliant play, FEFU AND HER FRIENDS. This performance platform, in which we cannot be physically together in the same space, accentuates the sense of disconnect and longing that is so omnipresent in Maria Irene Fornes’ play. Together, yet alone, we are challenged to let down our guards, face our demons, and be true to ourselves, with our friends.

TOYS 101 combines toy history and personal Queerness in order to explore Jonathan Alexandratos' emergence into the Non-Binary educator they are today.  Though the hope is that audiences will take away some new knowledge, this interactive solo show focuses on building community, safety, and love through shared play with our favorite toys.

As COVID-19 has moved most educators toward a "distance learning" model, so, too, goes TOYS 101.  For this online performance, we are looking at platforms like Twitch that allow for smooth viewer interactions as well as engaging content via multiple camera angles.  The ultimate goals remain: build community, safety, and love through shared experiences with toys.  We're now using every technological tool we can to create that community virtually.
